Fireflies Preschool serves children between the ages of 3 and 5 years old. The children are divided into 2 classrooms. The Lightning Bugs are the 3-4 year olds and the Fireflies are the 4-5 year olds. Our classrooms host a wide variety of activities in centers such as the play loft, the blocks and transportation area, the reading nook, the listening station, the light tables, a work bench and tools, as well as a housekeeping area for dress up and dramatic play.
Our program provides a rich environment that promotes the children’s active exploration in all areas of development: social, emotional, imaginative, critical thinking, literacy, numeracy, fine-motor, gross-motor, art and science. Every interaction is an opportunity for learning, and our teachers offer rich, authentic, engaging experiences for our preschoolers to best meet their cognitive, physical and social-emotional development. The curriculum is well-balanced in preparing the children for kindergarten both academically and socio-emotionally. Our goal is for our preschoolers to become life-long avid learners and kind, compassionate, responsible citizens.
Our preschoolers are given periods of time to explore their classroom environment and to delve into focused projects. They develop their fine-motor and coordination skills with puzzles and games, their creative skills with drawing, painting and cutting, their language skills with books, poetry, songs and individual and group discussion. A climbing structure, and music and dance support their spatial awareness and body control, while teacher-led group games offer fun physical challenges. Collaborative group play is encouraged with a focus on helping children develop self-help skills, communication, problem solving, conflict resolution, as well as encouraging independence.
Field trips play a big role in an effort to bring our community into the classroom. Our preschoolers visit The Art Association, Dancer’s Workshop, the Teton County Library, and the Jackson Hole Children’s Museum. We have collaborated with a class at Colter Elementary for our “3rd Grade Buddies” program. We work with Snow King Resort for a winter cross-country skiing program. We maintain a garden plot at the Jackson Hole Community Gardens. We also have a partnership with the Spanish class at the Jackson Hole Community School for a Spanish literacy project.
Come visit our classrooms, meet our teachers, and see our kiddos in action!
